The crooked narrow streets of this charming old town contain a disparate wealth of attractive and interesting architecture from centuries past. The engaging portals of the old stone houses divulge something of the history of this former island settlement, and a number of traces speak of the half-millennium-long era of Roman colonisation. Izola’s picturesque shops and pleasant bars are indeed enticing, while the scent of rosemary and stone pine and the sound of the roaring sea waves allure one to explore a little further.
